History

origins

Cricket had always been played spasmodically on Arran. But it was only in recent years that the idea of forming a club was mooted by a quartet of Arranachs, Rod Smith, Steven Beardsley, the late Bryan Allsop and Jim Marsden. It was 1998 to be precise and what you experience of cricket on Arran now, takes its origins from this enterprising initiative.

Named Corrie and Sannox Cricket Club to emphasize its local identity, a handful of players comprised the early practise nights. Equipment was old and tatty but a start was made. But it wasn't until 2002 when increased membership demanded a more professional approach that proper kit was obtained, larger grass cutting machines were begged borrowed or inherited and a proper fixture list was organised.

Today the club draws its teams from a pool of about 17-20 lovers of the game. The ground ,the Sannox Oval, kindly lent by the land owners Arran Estates and farmer James McKinnon of Sannox, is now a handsome well-drained pitch of unpredictable bounce, where the sheep and deer droppings have to be cleared before every match. Most recent development May 2009, is the donation of several hundred yards of boundary rope from Caledonian MacBrayne the ferry operators. This adds a further touch of class to an enviable ground

Scoreboard!

We have a scoreboard so that visitors can follow the fortunes of the match without that constant traipse back and forth to the scorers' table and that feeling of not wanting to put the scorer off by asking something. You can sit with your  sandwiches on our seating if you wish( or your own) and enjoy the usually sunny matches in the bowl of the bottom of Glen Sannox (see photo title page)
